Writing cluster meetings support Year 6 teachers to develop their teacher assessment judgements and articulate these through professional dialogue. They provide an opportunity for teachers to standardise their judgements for writing against the Teacher Assessment Framework (TAF), using nationally available resources, and to consider their pupils’ writing in relation to these standards.
Meetings will focus on the following standards: Expected Standard (EXS) and Greater Depth Standard (GDS).
The sessions will also give Year 6 teachers the opportunity to hear national messages from the Standards and Testing Agency (STA) about statutory writing assessments at the end of KS2.
Working in pairs and small groups, teachers will consider different aspects of the TAF alongside evidence from their own pupils’ writing. Through professional dialogue, they will develop a clear understanding of the statutory expectations and consider the implications for teaching and learning in their classrooms.
This session is intended to:
KS2 teachers will be required to upload, in advance, three pieces of writing for each of two pupils. Each pupil should be working at one of the standards being focused on during the meeting. Teachers may wish to include a pupil who is working at the borderline between the two standards.
As far as possible, the writing should include a range of work covering different aspects of the standards. Guidance on how to upload the writing will be provided.
When uploading the writing, teachers must refer to the user guide, which will be sent to them in advance of the meeting.
Although these sessions are intended primarily for Year 6 teachers, Year 5 teachers and KS3 English and literacy teachers are also welcome to attend.
Please note that bookings must be made in advance in order to attend the session. The course will take place via Zoom, and delegates will receive an email invitation 24 hours before the course. Please check that the email address provided when booking is correct.
