Writing cluster meetings support Year 6 teachers to develop their teacher assessment judgements and articulate these through professional dialogue. They provide an opportunity for teachers to standardise their judgements for writing against the Teacher Assessment Framework (TAF), using nationally available resources, and to consider their pupils’ writing in relation to these standards.
Meetings will focus on the following standards: Expected Standard (EXS) and Greater Depth Standard (GDS).
The sessions will also give Year 6 teachers the opportunity to hear national messages from the Standards and Testing Agency (STA) about statutory writing assessments at the end of KS2.
Working in pairs and small groups, teachers will consider different aspects of the TAF alongside evidence from their own pupils’ writing. Through professional dialogue, they will develop a clear understanding of the statutory expectations and consider the implications for teaching and learning in their classrooms.
This session is intended to:
• Support teachers to develop a clear understanding of the statutory assessment arrangements for writing at the end of KS2.
• Support teachers in understanding the KS2 teacher assessment standards for writing.
• Provide teachers with an opportunity to engage in standardisation and moderation activities.
• Develop teachers’ judgements in preparation for writing assessment at the end of KS2.
Delegates will need to bring writing from three pupils who are working at either EXS or GDS standard. They may also find it useful to bring writing from a pupil who they believe may be working on the cusp of the two standards.
Although these sessions are intended primarily for Year 6 teachers, Year 5 teachers and KS3 English and literacy teachers are also welcome to attend.
