Overview

This practical and engaging 90-minute course is designed to support new and existing Headteachers, deputy Heads, and school leaders in understanding and confidently managing health and safety within their schools.

The session provides a clear overview of legal responsibilities, key risk areas, and what effective health and safety management looks like in practice. Using real examples from schools, the course focuses on helping leaders move beyond paperwork and ensure that arrangements are working day to day.

• Key legal duties and responsibilities for Headteachers
• Common issues identified across Croydon schools and how to address them
• How to manage key risks including premises, curriculum activities, and people-related risks
• Real-life case studies and lessons learned from incidents
• What “good” looks like in a well-managed school

The course is designed to be practical, proportionate, and relevant to all school types—whether maintained, academy, or trust-led settings.
